Temple Overview: Located 70 km from Tirupati, the Kanipakam temple is home to a self-manifested (Swayambhu) idol of Lord Ganesha. This is the only temple in the world where the deity sits in the middle of a perennial well, with the water level staying constant regardless of the season. It is widely believed that the idol grows in size every year, and the silver armor (Kavacham) offered decades ago no longer fits the Lord today.
History & Legend: The legend dates back to three disabled brothers (deaf, dumb, and blind) who were digging a well. Their shovel hit a stone, and blood began to gush out, turning the water red. Miraculously, the brothers were cured of their disabilities. The villagers found the Ganesha idol in the water and could not find its base, declaring it Swayambhu.

• The Name: "Kani" means wetland and "Pakam" means flow of water. 
• The Bahuda River: Legend also tells of two brothers, Sankha and Likhita, whose severed arms were restored after a dip in the nearby river, now called the Bahuda River.

  • Arjitha Sevas: Traditional wear is mandatory.
